Turning Illness Into Action

Samantha Konigsberg is a 17-year-old girl, born and raised in Manhattan. At the age of 11, already learning to live with multiple chronic illnesses, she became critically ill with yet another one. It took 4 painful months before Samantha was diagnosed with Neuronal Intestinal Dysplasia. Throughout the next 3 years Samantha had 3 major intestinal surgeries, all 535 miles away from home. It was when she was in the hospital that she first conceived the idea of inVISABLE. Being away from friends, family, and school left her feeling isolated and in need of support. She searched far and wide for a support system that encompassed all chronic illness, like inVISABLE, but there was no place to turn. Samantha realized when talking with other teen patients that they too felt the same type of isolation and loneliness. That’s when she knew she had to do something. In 2016 inVISABLE was officially born. Samantha launched the Instagram in November of 2016 and plans to launch the app in May of 2018.
